Janice Walter Vallin named Publisher of Marysville Globe and Arlington TImes

Effective today, Sound Publishing is pleased to announce the appointment of Janice Walter Vallin as Publisher of the Marysville Globe and Arlington Times. Janice will be replacing DeAnna Emborski as of Monday, August 9th, 2010.

Janice Vallin began her career in newspapers in 1988 working in retail advertising sales for The Bryan-College Station Eagle. She moved to Houston four years later where she enjoyed a long and challenging career at The Houston Chronicle moving up the ranks from automotive, retail, and commercial print sales into management. In 1997 she was promoted to retail manager leading a major account team responsible for high volume clients located in Dallas and San Francisco.

She continued to move up the ladder, and in 2003 Janice was promoted to Director of Major Accounts, Commercial Printing, and Direct Marketing. Her teams were responsible for aggressively growing revenue on a $164 million base. In 2005, the Chronicle started to shift focus to local Houston accounts and Janice was asked to lead this team as Director of Local Accounts.

The Austin American-Statesman recruited Janice to take the role of Senior Multimedia Director in late 2005, leading the newspaper’s ROP and online portfolio of business.  She also enjoyed acting as the business director of Glossy, an upscale fashion magazine and XL, Austin’s entertainment weekly.

In 2010, Janice took on the role of General Manager for Austin’s community newspaper, Community Impact. Janice enjoyed leading advertising and editorial teams delivering a local business journal to over 446,000 Austin residents.

Winning many awards in her sales and management roles, Janice was a nominated and elected board member of the Newspaper Association of America, Austin Ad Federation and the Austin’s Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Business Council.

Graduating from Texas A&M University, Janice holds a degree in journalism and marketing.  Travel is her passion along with entertaining with her new husband of one year, Armando.
