Commissary helps Sailors prep for Super Bowl

The Commissary temporarily set up in the Commons at Naval Station Everett, Feb. 2, to sell all the necessary food and beverages for Super Bowl Sunday. Dinner and snack foods such as frozen pizzas, chicken wings, chips and sandwich platters were sold, as well as a wide variety of beverages. Setting up for the event meant having to bring in two cash registers and coordinating with the Commons staff to plug them in. Staff members also helped Commissary personnel set up the large amounts of food and beverages brought in from the main store at the Smokey Point Navy Support Complex located in Marysville, Wash. The event was meant to make purchasing snack foods for Super Bowl Sunday easy and convenient for Sailors at NAVSTA Everett, particularly the single Sailors living on base. The commissary is trying to make a trip similar to this one to NAVSTA Everett every quarter to increase awareness of what they have to offer and help Sailors save money.

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) successfully passed its 2010-2011 Maintenance and Material Management Inspection (3MI) Jan. 25-29, demonstrating a high level of expertise in shipboard equipment and maintenance procedures. Lincoln received a final score of 92.34 percent from Naval Air Forces inspectors who conducted spot checks of equipment maintenance, tested the crew’s knowledge of the Navy’s Material Data System (MDS), and performed administrative reviews to ensure maintenance accountability and validation paperwork was correct. “The results are fantastic,” said Master Chief Electrician’s Mate James T. The 3.1 mile race was organized by Everett’s Moral, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) department. The run took place onboard NSE, utilizing nearly the entire base. Even though the event was themed the ‘Freeze yer buns run’, competitors enjoyed sunshine, very little wind, and a near to perfect running temperature of 50 degrees. “It was such a beautiful day to run,” said Machinist Mate 2nd Class LeAnn Patrick, NSE Operations. “Even though the run was difficult, the perfect weather made it very enjoyable.” The winners were broken down into three categories. There were first, second and third place male and female winners, as well as an overall command cup winner. Sailors arrive alive with new program

All too often we hear about drunk drivers killing themselves or others in horrible wrecks, or about Sailors getting DUIs and ruining their careers. Almost daily we hear terrible stories involving alcohol; many of which could have ended differently if only there had been a designated driver. Although most people have a plan with a safe way to get home after a night of drinking, we all know that even the most thought out plans are subject to change; your designated driver may have decided to leave early or have a couple drinks, or perhaps the money you brought for taxi cab was spent or even stolen. In an effort to eliminate Sailors from driving under the influence, Naval Station Everett (NSE) has developed a new program they call Arrive Alive. This program includes a volunteer organization dedicated to providing Sailors a safe drive home, no matter what the circumstances.
