On March 2, Navy Gate-way Inns & Suites (NGIS) staff from throughout Navy Region Northwest converged on the Smokey Point Complex for a day of training and to test their knowledge of NGIS policy, systems and processes.  Regional NGIS Program Director, Barbara Williams, facilitated the quarterly training and friendly team competition.

Teams participated in four different games, including their own version of the game show Password, a horse race, beach rally and the big wheel.

The purpose of the friendly competition was two-fold: to provide a fun way of reinforcing and clarifying NGIS policy and procedures as well as providing a venue for regional team building and networking. The team representing the Smokey Point NGIS won the overall event, accumulating 1380 points.

“We all had a blast,” said Williams. “The staff want to do this every quarter. On the way home the group from Naval Base Kitsap kept saying, ‘Wow, those Smokey Point girls are sharp.’”

After the prizes were given out, the group joined the housekeeping staff for a potluck luncheon, as well as enjoying some time to get better acquainted with each other. The staff also toured the Smokey Point NGIS facility.
